Subject: Re: Yield loss to gray leaf spot?

Ed, what is considered "severe"? Number of lesions per leaf or number of leaves with lesions? Also, what do you consider the threshold where it pays to spray at these prices? It was an easier decision last summer with higher grain prices & yield potential plus lower spray cost' I was out in several of our cornfields with our chemical salesman today and he couldn't tell me other than to check the 3rd leaf down from the ear leaf. He did say he didn't think we needed to spray anything right now but need to check it again in a week to 10 days. At what point would you consider it's past time to spray, brown silk or do you think it would pay to spray later than brown silk if there was a heavy infestation that came on after brownsilk ?

TIA,
