Strathcona, mn | First thing you have to remember is the head was designed to run on a gleaner. Yes, it can be adapted but it is set up to run on a gleaner. On a gleaner they feed exceptionally well. Once they went to the wide Draper belt on the macdon they had feeding issues with them on the narrow feeder house gleaner. Sounds like those issues are pretty much solved now. I’ve been around macdon and still own a rigid macdon for my r75 to cut wheat. I also have a 40’ 9250 on my r76. After having a bean harvest from hell and knee deep mud the 9250 had virtually no issues with mud in the belts. They still use the header height system like a flex head and you can set the sensitivity on the go. The macdon with springs is an adjust once and go. The neighbors with macdon were having a lot more problems in the mud. The 9250 will shave the ground where the macdon with 3 rigid cutter bars will not follow as close. The 9250 is mechanical but it is not “simple”. The macdon is a much simpler head and I would guess needs less upkeep over its life. With that being said I am very happy with the cut and feeding ability of the 9250 when paired to my r76. I’ll probably end up with a macdon 40’ on my r75 as that combine does not have lateral tilt and imo the 9250 mist have lateral tilt to do its thing well. | |
