East Central, Nebraska | i just traded one a month ago. my dad still has one. i think they are neat headers as they operate just like deeres 600F hydraflex headers. like stated above they are all mechanically driven which i thought was huge plus as it didn't need a whole bunch of power to create hydraulic power for pumps and motors. the biggest thing they have that most deere guys don't even know they are living without is the ability to tilt the cutter bar down or up. i think it has the best of alot of worlds but i decided to part with mine due to little support of making it work on a deere s series. i cut quite a few beans with it the last couple seasons, and yes it did work. i put a macdon on and though i think the macdon is a bit primitive using all the springs to float the macdon just worked. what is most interesting is after i bought the macdon i read the operators manual and in it they layout specs of many different combine colors and that book pretty much answered alot of the questions i had about what i needed to make it work like a gleaner combine was powering it. it think they are good heads if you don't mind tinkering a little in the beginning to make things go like they should. problem is its hard to stop for a day and adjust when the beans are ready and neighbors are all going. if you buy it, let me know as i can probably shed some light on the solutions i found to make mine work. the one thing i do know is that i will not look back after owning this macdon. this thing is where i should have been the whole time.
you should be able to buy it cheap as they are coming down in price quite rapidly. i believe the deere drapers are getting more widespread and the used market is being flooded which eases up the macdon used market which in turn lowers the price on all draper headers. i took about a $10k hit owning mine for the season and a half i did, and i bought on auction and traded to a dealer. i just picked up some more acres this year and dealer support was not there for this head so i took the safer route. hope it works for you. | |
