| When I ran sheep, my base herd was 24 rambouillet katahdin cross ewes. They were all wool sheep and were decent lambers and weight gainers. I could successfully get lambs to 110ibs within a year on grass hay and then second cut alfalfa grass hay, no grain. My first ram was a "katahdin" but was black with brown wool, so I called him my super cross. My shearer told me the katahdins are supposed to be able to be able to live off little grass as they developed for poorer agriculture environments. I went suffolk after the katahdin super cross ram and never looked back, was very happy with the results. | |
