Subject: RE: Dorper Sheep vs. Katahdin Sheep

south east Indiana
I have had a few hair sheep for 15yrs. Have always seen larger dorpers or crosses than straight katahdins. I prefer Kat moms then crossed on something larger.
The thing with all hair sheep is that they put on internal fat, especially so with grain. If you want to market lighter and from pasture they will work well. If wanting to fatten I would cross with a wool ram. Personally I have had poorer feed conversion with hair sheep and mine have been no more or less parasite resistant than my wool sheep
