Manitoba, Canada | I can't speak to the MT900 series but we're on our second MT800 and first MT700, with over 10,000hrs between the three of them. The MT865A was the most bulletproof, sold it at 12000hrs without the C16 engine or transmission ever being touched and had very little SCV problems.
The C series problems that we've had have been mentioned by others.
The AC isn't strong enough, the heater valve helps alot and for some reason the MT875C is better than the MT765C.
The hydraulics are problematic to say the least, but there's a simple fix for poor dealers, if you only need 3 hyd for your disk. Just get a tractor with 6 and move to the next hyd when one fails. Then get the dealer out once a year to fix all the failed ones. Have had the finger levers fail (you can replace), the solenoids fail (fills with oil and shorts the little ecm but you can replace the solenoid), the ecm's fail (dealer can program them at their shop on their tractor, and then you just pick it up and install it yourself), the breakaways can wear out and then won't hold the coupler anymore (these are easy to replace and are the same ones as on a Deere R series, they're cheaper from Deere FYI)
I think the belly pans might be a scraper tractor option and there's basic ones and HD ones.
The screen can hit the window and break the scroll wheel.
We've had one steering wheel tilt cylinder fail too.
We've had problems with the fuse boxes that they use, they have more amps running through the box than they are rated for and have melted one before. In my opinion, 30 amp mini fuses are ticking time bombs.
The head gasket on a C18 is common to leak but it's only head drain oil leaking to the exterior and it costs a couple hundred bucks in parts plus man hours to fix, if it bothers you. Takes 2 part time mechanics an afternoon to fix.
Overall, I'd much rather spend $1000 a year on hydraulics than $50k every 3000hrs on an engine or $50k on a transmission every 5000hrs.
Plus the torque and fuel efficiency of the C18 are unbeatable. Gear up, throttle back to 1500-1600rpm. | |
