There's nothing between a std Textron Torx T40 and a T45. The only odd number of size is a special GM Torx fastener, a T47.

The original std Torx eventually morphed into the Torx Plus with slightly bigger splines for higher torqueing capacity. Your T40 bit is a std Torx, your fastener is a Torx Plus.

You can use a std Torx bit (like a T40) in a Torx Plus screw but it'll fit loose and you can't really torque on it good without stripping something out. A Torx Plus bit (like a 40IP - the "I" is for internal and the "P" for Plus) is too large for a std Torx screw, it won't fit.

There are other oddball Torx fasteners - tamper-proof or security fasteners and others.
