Subject: RE: New Grain Dryer

Northwest IL
I recently upgraded dryers from a double stack 2314 GSI to a Sukup mixed flow 2410. So far I am overly impressed with the capacity of my mixed flow. I bought the expandable option (I can add more on top)but after getting the capacity I currently am I am not sure I will ever need it. Excellent grain quality and definitely using less LP than my GSI. No screens to clean either. Some say they are a dirty dryer but I really can’t complain about that.

On another note we custom farm 1,000 acres for a client who in 2015 put up a 48’ shivvers system. We call it a “****ters”! To this day it hasn’t ever ran 12 hours without shutting down from some malfunction. Biggest disappointment I have ever seen. It has 2 50 hp fans and 3 floor augers. I personally think a level dry is a must in a 48’ bin because no spreader in the world will ever spread the corn even enough. Trying to spread even with a spreader results in corn coming out of roof vents and making a mess. If using a level dry you have to have a wet bin and at that point go to a CF. With three floor sweeps we have had it pinned numerous times from unwanted shutdowns. Major PITA!

Do what works for you but I would highly recommend a mixed flow!
