Austin MN | The were very popular here for years. When they first showed up around here guys were used to toxowics and behlen batch dryers. They were a huge improvement over those plus you gained some storage. Continuous flows have replaced alot of them. Some operators still swear by them, others were happy to see them go. The biggest thing the guys that switch say is because the grain is constantly moving there is a test weight improvement vs a top dry that really cooks the grain against and screens and the grain on top gets sorta dried. I probably would not put up another one only because there are alot of used continuous flow dryers that can do alot of bph and are alot cheaper. Obviously that a personal preference.
Biggest gripe I have with running one is every few days you should stop the dryer, batch it out and clean the screens. Other wise all the heat cant get through and winds up over drying the grain in the storage area. Not a big deal to do but does take time | |
