Carl,
Hey I work for Kinze and wanted to let you know that the true rate meters are greatly improved over the Edge Vac Meters. The True Rate meter is more forgiving, easier to adjust and consistently plants at 99% plus accuracy. It is less sensitive different seed sizes and doesn't require the constant tuning like the Edge Vac meters did. Your note on lower torque to drive the meter is right on and when compared to the Edge Vac meter is 75% less and even less than half when compared to a finger pickup. The nice part about True Rate is you can update your older Edge Vac meters to the new true rate meters with our retro fit kits you can get through your local Kinze dealer. The dealer can also provide pricing on the kits for the specific planter configuration.
Another advantage is the ease of crop changeover with quarter turn center hub and we have a seed disc to support covers crops/wheat. The seed release point of the True Rate meter is now at the 3 o'clock position which allows a zero velocity drop. This means no matter travel speed or population you don't have the possibility of the seed getting thrown off of the disc and causing inconsistent seed spacing. The older Edge-Vac meter releases around the 7 o'clock position which when planting faster and using higher population can cause the seed to have velocity when released causing possible spacing issues while traveling down the seed tube.
The last item to highlight is the design of the seed disc. The discs are designed to have the seed held high on the disc and not recessed into pockets on the disc like competition which again prevents the seed from having any velocity and a clean non obstructed release to keep consistent seed spacing and our 99% plus accuracy. Any other questions please let me know visit with your local KINZE dealer visit Kinze.com. https://www.kinze.com/blog/which-seed-meter-is-right-for-you
