You can do the router thing, or you can connect the printer to a gateway computer.
My printer is plugged into a desktop computer that doesn’t ever really get turned off. As long as that computer is on, the printer is shared on the network. No one needs to be logged in to the computer, and it can be sleeping, it just needs to be on.
