nc IA | Started from scratch with a new 30x7 wide storage, 5 years ago. Then 4 years ago moved in a used 27' top dry - manual batch controls. Would dry and then move the swing hopper to transfer over to storage, then just load out when storage was full as I dried. It worked, and I had minimal investment and very little to go wrong electronically or mechanically. But it was a huge time suck to use. The manual batch dryer was very inefficient as I couldn't be out combining and get it going again at the same time. The time to drop and reload by auger was all wasted drying time as well. Efficiency when I could recapture the heat was good, but it just took too long when I didn't live there and worked another job.
This year I gutted the top dry and have converted it to a wet holding bin. I picked up a NECO 1270 gravity fill mixed flow of the same fan/burner capacity off of agtalk. I also found on agtalk a 5" blower system. Then I put up a new 33'x12 wide storage bin additionally. Waiting now on the bin contractor and electrician to finish this project (nervously!) So I should now have around 10K of wet holding with a continuous flow system I can be out combining / hauling / sleeping without shutting down every 1,300 bushels like before.
Edit: pics are chronological year by year. Fill auger from wet / old top dry to dryer was only installed a week or two ago, don't have a pic of that yet.
