Dad was slow in everything he did except driving the baler tractor. Thank goodness we had a slower NH270 baler, but he would run that chamber full and I was the only one on the wagon..... in light windrows I was hanging on a very bumpy ride.

We baled a lot of road ditches and along the county drainage ditch, a lot of gopher holes and mounds and lots of hills.

I could never ever get a bale to hang on the side of a load lengthwise. They would pop out. Had to have the outside bales across the rack. One down the middle lengthwise would hold the bales from falling forward.

We did have 1x4 strips along the edge of the hayrack sides to hold the bales on the rack. Dad liked smaller racks, less then 8 feet wide and 15 or so feet long, would fit in doors and maneuver better on the odd shaped plots we baled. My =|= pattern across the rack would hang over a little on both sides, but my loads hung together and stayed on.

I use a bale basket now.
