Subject: Talked to a Union plumber about just that

Good friend of my nephew is a union plumber in Chicago. Works for a company that does commercial construction. Apartment buildings, office buildings, etc.

In some municipalities and I think he also said in Chicago, PEX is not allowed in any construction, commercial or residential.

He claimed that the Chlorine in city water, over time, will cause PEX to become brittle and break. Don't remember the timeline, but it seems like he was saying 20 years was the expected life.

He didn't know what well water would do, but expected it to extend the life of PEX. He likes running PEX, but would only put hard copper in anything he would own.

That says a lot.
