Unfortunately (and I love fresh fruit), fresh fruit is full of fructose which is directly processed by the liver. Fructose does not raise glucose levels, but it contributes to fat in the liver. Fruit juice is worse. A little fruit once in a while as a treat (treat it like sugar) is ok. Loading up on it all the time might as well drink yourself into a fatty liver with alcohol. Fruit juice is even worse because it lacks the fiber. Small amounts in season is probably. Eating it year round in large amounts is not. Berries like strawberry, blueberry, raspberry and blackberry are the lowest in sugar of the fruits. Actually avocado is as it is mostly fat and is healthy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6LL92Zs5L0 is fruit good for you? Anyone old enough to remember when an apple and orange were often included as a "treat" at Christmas in a school or church Santa stocking? Maybe we weren't meant to eat fruit 365 days of the year. I used to eat bananas nearly every day for potassium (broccoli has more). Healthy, right? No wonder I was on a hundred units of insulin a day. John |
