Subject: RE: John Deere 7530 premium IVT

Southern Pa.
A buddy of mine used to have 2 of them, and a 7330. I used to help him a good bit, but he has since moved about an hour south of us.I put a good many hours on them. One of the 7530s had a loader. All were IVT, TLS, no cab suspension, IIRC.They were mainly planting tractors, but we also pulled a NH big square baler behind the one 7530, and a round baler behind the 7330.

They were basicly trouble free the last I ran them. They were getting toward 5k hours, IIRC. He did have the Extended Powergard warranty, and I think they all had the injectors replaced under warranty. In defense of the tractors, he did buy fuel from a supplier that has a history of water and dirt in their fuel. He did service them regularly, also used fuel treatment, so maybe the bad fuel didn't affect the injectors??? I can't say for sure, but we use a different supplier with a reputation for quality fuel, and haven't had to replace injectors yet on any of our 6X30 series tractors. Same injectors as far as I know. We have had to run JD fuel protect through our tractors several times to clear up slight misfires/rough running, etc. The rough running wasn't bad, but you could hear it, and also see the engine shaking slightly. It was more noticeable before the engine got up to operating temp.

I also help another buddy over harvest/silo filling time, etc. They have an '11 7330, and two 7130 tractors. One is an '09 with a 6.8L, and one is a '10 with the 4.5L engine. (6X30 tractors use the same basic 4.5L engine) All three have developed rough running/misfires in the last year or so. All of them have between 2k and 2.5k hours. They get their fuel from a different supplier than either my buddy or I do.

So three different farmers with small frame 30 series tractors, with 3 different fuel suppliers have all had varying degrees of injector issues. All three farmers service regularly, and all 3 use fuel treatment regularly. One farmer uses Power Service, two of us use Stanadyne.

So in summary, if I was looking at a 7530, I would check records to see if any injector work was done. I would also pay special attention to how smooth the engine runs when first started. It shouldn't smoke, or lope/shake/misfire when it is cold.

To check for this problem, slowly rev the engine to wide open shortly after startup. It should not shake/miisfire or lope. If the tractor is up to operating temp, it will mask this issue. So make sure the owner doesn't have it warmed up for you when you arrive to test drive.

Other than that, just do your due diligence at checking the tranny, and other functions like you would any other tractor. Or any other issues in or out of warranty.

I haven't noticed posters complaining on NAT about injector issues in small frame 30 series tractors. Most of the posters seem to be from biodiesel country. Biodiesel is supposed to be good for fuel lubricity, is that helping those folks not have injector issues??? Maybe there are posters having issues, and they aren't talking about it. IDK.

We don't have Biodiesel here in our area.

Overall, I really like 7X30 small frame tractors. Nothing's perfect, and maybe we have something to learn in our area in regards to the injector issues.

One thing I will say is don't get excited about the engine sounding kinda pingy when you rev it up. That sound will vary depending on load/rpm/engine temp, etc. Typical for HPCR engines. Just watch for roughness/lope/engine shaking, etc.

Sorry for the lengthy post!

Good luck on your purchase!!!
