Interesting concept of pumpkins / squash in solar corridors. No herbicide issue because you are organic. Back when Bob Recker of CVI was working on strip intercropping instead of the 60” corn he’s researching now, we tried some specialty crops in 8 corn and 8 other strips. This was in conjunction with a local farmers market grower who planted edamame, squash, pumpkins, watermelon, potatoes, etc. Edamame did very well and may have benefited from the shading. Potatoes and squash were in the same strip with two rows of potatoes and one of squash. About the time potatoes were maturing the squash over ran them. The concept was to try and produce 2/3 + corn yield on 1/2 the land and rent the other half to a new farmer. The demo plot was interesting but haven’t done it again.
