Custer County, Nebraska | It is going to be impossible to harvest some fields in a timely manner given transportation issues, field softness, mud, standing water, and gullies/washouts cutting up fields.
In one area, I have two pivots on a dirt road which has washed out 3 times now. This last event was only 2 inches but it destroyed the road once again. I don't know how I am going to get the crop out. Paved roads already look like it is April when the frost goes out and asphalt breaks up.
Unless this trend breaks I am afraid what winter will bring. Letting crops stand for a long time is a bad idea for my area. It is never October without five days of 60+ mph winds. Throw multiple blizzards on top of ear droppage because of the terrible weather, this could be the makings of an incredible disaster far surpassing crop loss a couple years ago. | |
