Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot | I was up in Christmas Valley about a month ago, saw an awful lot of those blue and white trucks and I know they were all going to HK in Winters. We are a lot closer (right on the border) so we can go either way. Used to send lots of hay to Ellensburg, but the freight got high enough they all but quit. AHG in Aurora seems to come and go, but they were all over premium 3 tie this year. It was primo stuff, but compared to what the CA guys were offering it was a premium price too.
The freight is pretty reasonable from here to CA, the presses there have been buying, don't get me wrong I just personally didn't sell much too them. I showed them a lot of hay 1st cutting and they only bought from the guys who they always buy from, nothing else. They were cheaper, but they'll also average a price for everything and pay good money for rained on hay, big bales, etc, stuff that other exporters won't do. In the end it's a good deal. | |
