I don't know, and it's not that way for everyone. I load out hay for a bunch of other growers, and the CA presses have bought lots of their hay. It is unusual because the OR and WA guys have hardly even been around much, and it the were they were $20 too cheap. This year they are paying $10 more than the other guy to make sure they get it. Has been really nice hay though. I didn't even know anyone was still willing to haul hay all the way to E-burg. Most of it going to Aurora though.
Ben I am surprised that you are exporting hay as the CA market has dried up. We sold a couple loads last May and June Then towards July my brother sent a load to be loaded up then everything came to a screeching halt. I guess they are buying again this year but not at a price that you can break even at.
The dairy market is the same way they will buy straw no problem but premium Alfalfa is sitting, our area was about 60% of the acreage in Alfalfa, now you take a double look if you see an Alfalfa field. Even the dairy’s are planting less and less corn... I am not sure how thats going to work out with their Dairy management plan laws. |
