Going to have to buy a big baler. 3x4. Some of my friends have 1290 Krones, some have MF Hesstons, 2170's and 2270's. Each swear by what they have. I know a few of you have had experience with both, what would you buy and why? High density?
Going to be baling mostly alfalfa, everything from big heavy crops to 1/2 ton fall cleanup. Some straw. I like to be able to bale the straw heavy, guy that's been baling for me has a high density Krone and if they bale at night or early morning with some dew, can get 1000lb bales which is nice, is that doable without the high density balers? But my main focus is alfalfa. Looking at new to slightly used.
1000 lbs is doable if the setup is correct. I weighed a load of 4x3 out of a LBX431 the other day that averaged 922. They were a few inches shy of 8 ft long and the straw was fairly long out of a JD....and the windrows were only 2 ft wide going into a 4 ft chamber.....and the straw was only 8%. Bottom half of the bale was tight but I could get my fingers all the way in at the top of the bale. It’s not stuffing the pre compression chamber quite perfect. Baler has 37,000 bakes on it and most of those not baled by the owner.
Whenever I bale hay tight it caramelizes.
