Farms in the cheseapeak bay water shed have been required to have a cafo permit for any operation over 200 animal units for many years. Animals not confined do not count towards the cafo permit.
Iowa already has to have a CAFO permit for anything over 300 Animal Units.
Make no mistake, this is Johnson Co trying to ban livestock farms. Doubtful it would hold up in court if/when challenged.
If it does hold up in court there will be more counties following suit shortly.
