How far north are you talking? We run a Orthman 1tRIPer and so when we talk strip till our configuration starts with a coulter, followed by row cleaners(trash whippers), then a nutrient shank, wtih wavy coulters off to each side and then a rolling basket behind that. We are probably tilling 10" about 30% of the entire area. We think it is pretty difficult to totally miss that strip with the planter. The point I was trying to make is why is it so important to be dead center in a 10" strip? In fact, until we put more auto steer units on the planters our employees were manually driving the planters over the strips and doing a good job! We farm straight back and forth on irrigated pivots. We only strip till the area inside the circle and then make a pass around the perimeter to put down the fertilizer. It becomes difficult to keep the planter on the strip when we plant out past the perimeter instead of planting a pass around the perimeter. Hpefully this will be better with a AutoTrac unit on each planter.
