North Dakota
While setting up header, they instruct you to put a 8-10 inch blocks under the outside of header and put header in a smile to check centering of reel with header all the way down. Then you can put blocks under the middle of header (inside of the flex point or the triangle pieces on cutter bar of wings) and set down to see what it looks like in a frown (this is to check reel finger clearance to cutter bar at the two flex points) to compare. If the outside of wing and the inside portion of wing is riding on ground. You will leave some crop if the wing goes over a draw.

Usually I adjust header with a little frown so header would follow the ground. If adjusted with a smile, usually get a complaint that the ends of header is leaving too much crop.

Really need to get out in field to see what header is really doing when working.

If your combine as field tracker on feeder house, Macdon does offer a two sensor Automatic Header Height Compensation for the FD100 series to help compensate going over hills and draws.
