| Just traded in our 40' fd75 for a new fd145' 45' header for my Deere s680. Harvest is about a week away and Pape finally came out to setup the new header today. Had issues with the fd75 not smiling enough, multiple mechanics and a macdon rep looked at it we decided to just upgrade to a new one. Liked the new features, hydrualic oil, seperate systems for each motor. Anyways, i dont like how this new one smiles either. After properly calibrating both float and wing balance, we can stand on each end of the header with someone out front watching till it maxes out the white smle/frown indicator in the middle and get visible frown, then we lift up each end till the indicator is maxed out and there is much less of a visible smile, barely beyond level. This is exactly what I didnt like about the fd75 but it appears this fd145 is doing the same exact thing. We left lots of lentils in the field where the middle of each section would just go over the crop. Not enough smile. Mechanic says the feederhouse forcing it down in the midde more during operation will stretch the springs more in the field and get more smile but i can tell it will still be leaving crop in the field when i need a smile, just like the fd75 did. Does anyone know how to adjust this or is it even possible? id love to steal some frown and give it to the smile. Macdons website shows the header flexing say 50/50 smile frown but mine is more 80/20 at best and i find it hard to believe both the macdon headers weve had on this combine have the same issue. | |
