Woodham, Ontario | We use something completely different. Ours sit on cement strips with coarse gravel between the strips. The strips are wide enough that the calves stay on the cement. We use a generous amount of straw for bedding. The reason we went with cement is because with our clay soils, even a gravel base will saturate. Now we can easily clean ALL manure after each calf and stop any disease from spreading. We usually clean the bedding with a payloader and/or skidsteer. Having strips instead of a huge single slab allows rainwater to drain.
