| JChamb the boxes are about $800 each through American Van or over$1000 if you get them through JOBox. The compressor was made by a company called VoltAir and they sold out to a rebuilder in MO and from there it looks like they quit building them. It was $1000+ 20 years ago. I will probably buy another one for a spare if I ever run across one for sale. The boxes are not as durable as something like Rimrock because of the aluminum construction. The boxes have been in the back of various 3/4 ton 6 1/2 ft bed pickups for over 500,000 miles. They have started to stress crack around where the rollers bolt through the case. I have replaced the rollers and put a reinforcing strip of aluminum where they bolt and expect several more years of service from them. One thing you don't see is behind the cooler is a compartment made of square tubing and covered in aluminum diamond plate that is only 5 inches tall that has a 16 ft Extend and Climb ladder in it. The fork tubes hold 4 ft long pry bars and cheater pipes. I have a 2020 ordered and it looks like some modification will be necessary. Chevrolet has made the bed a little wider between the wheel wells and made it 4 inches longer. This was far from a cheap solution but it allows me to have the Sunday pickup look with the capability of a service truck. When on the road the only way to access anything in the bed including the cooler is to unlock the tailgate. Might wake up in the morning and find the pickup gone but I never worry about what is in the bed. | |
