I try to screw them on rather than wrap them. Stiff wrap can wear the hose when spinning on, and steel has less resistance, so I try to screw them on over a fitting at one end or the other. As others have said, two people makes it easier.

This is not always possible, and so sometimes, you just fight it the entire way. The worst part is that when I have a chance to slip it over the hose from the end, I usually forget to do it before installing the hose.

Looks like you removed yours by unwinding them rather than spinning them off. They may have been too stiff to spin anyhow.
