It might be beneficial to have all the manufactures bring their products to something like Husker Harvest Days and run them side by side and measure the differences. Maybe they already do this, we are always harvesting during that event.
We have ran SF2 for several years strip tilling and the pass to pass accuracy in my opinion is adequate. As far as repeatabilty goes, when you have the ablity to record your coordinates and heading when you strip till it appears to me you can come back with the planter and even if you have to shift the track occasionaly you can plant in the strip and according to no tillers they would say it didn't matter anyway. I'm not sure I understand the concern for keeping the planter right down the middle of the strip. From all the soil scientists I have talked to they would say the plant doess't care.the plant doesn't care. As for the one post about using NH3 with RTK or SF2 and what kind of a waiting period is required before planting, I may not have understood his point. I think there is a great deal of debate on NH3 toxicty to a seedling plant. I do think there is a need for a certain amount of spacing betweeen the NH3 injection point and seed placement. I'm not aware of any reseach that quantifies that or gives a definate time as to how soon you can plant behind NH3 application. I think the amount of NH3 applied may have an affect , although we have applied 280# of N in the spring and planted right over that strip. We farm in SW Kansas so we don't get much help from Mother Nature to dilute that band. | |
