Christianson's area was ten to twenty under trend last year. Bunkers where picked up months ago and farmers aren’t selling. Lots of 5 dollar coffee shop talk. There was a thread down below claiming southern Minnesota and northern Iowa cried wolf last year. Basis says different. New crop is a different story. Everything is planted. Crops look good, albeit late this year. It could be an Illinois bumper harvest lid year.
Yes, I know. I'm 8 miles from their mill. We had TERRIBLE corn last year.
The piles weren't picked up, they never existed. The coops never even got permanent storage full.
I thought the crops looked good at first. Now the compaction from mudding it in is starting to show up. Yellowing everywhere. I think the hidden problem is the unfit conditions. Those won't truly show up until the conbines roll.
On top of that the university of Illinois has a corn maturity calculator. 100 day corn planted the 25th (assuming average GDU) will silk late August and not blacklayer until mid November. That spells trouble in northern states.
