Chris has a good point.

If you look at the pictures and videos of people rolling and crimping pay attention to the planting rates. They use a pretty heavy rate of seed.

If you use a stripper then the rye will stand for a long time and I would think there would be more of an erosion control than seed suppression.

With the rye standing there will be more sunlight hitting the ground.
