Thanks for the info - some of which I have learned from working with PWM's in the past. I have a customer who would like a switch that does three things: turn the pump off, turn it full on - mixing etc,, & let the Insight control it. He has a PWM pump on a GVM prowler with Insight liquid direct command. I have an idea on how to accomplish this, but was wondering if I should be switching the ground or the positive side of the pump's PWM power. Also, will a constant 12V hurt the PWM at all?

If the Insight is correctly running the PWM valve now, look at the configuration for the controller and see if the choice is PWM 12 Volt or PWM Ground.

Once you determine which type you have, it seems to me that a SPDT switch with center OFF should do the trick. SPDT stands for Single Pole Double Throw. This switch has three terminals. With the switch flipped one way, the center terminal is connected to an outside terminal. With the switch flipped the other way, the center terminal is connected to the other outside terminal. When the switch is in the center position there is no connection to the center terminal.

The wire that you would be using would be either 2 or 7 on the 8 Pin connector of the Liquid Product Control module. The wire to Pin 2 would be cut if the system is a 12V PWM. The wire to Pin 7 would be cut if the system is a PWM Ground type.

The cut end from the module would go to one of the outer terminals on the switch. The cutoff end that leads to the valve would go to the center terminal. When the switch is in the center position the pump should stop. With the switch flipped away from the outer terminal that was used, the Insight should run the pump as before.

Then all that's left is to attach a hot or ground to the other outer terminal. If the system is a PWM 12 Volt, then attach the outer terminal to 12V. If the system is a PWM Ground attach a ground to the outer terminal. When the switch is flipped to connect the center to this outer terminal then the valve should open fully.

Once again, Switch flipped one way - Normal operation Direct Command is in charge, Switch in the center position - pump stops, Switch flipped the other way, full power to the valve- pump runs at maximum speed.

The constant power or ground should not hurt the valve, it will just be fully opened and running the pump at maximum speed.

Certain wiring harnesses have a pump switch which allows the operator to stop the pump. I believe Ag Leader's idea would be that the operator would run the pump up to his desired speed/pressure by using the Manual setting on the console. This would allow the system to be run at a higher rate but not necessarily the maximum.
