It takes a bit of hp to run a spreader; costs a few $1000 per machine to have one on.

The folks owning/operating the pea pickers are interested in getting the most peas in the tin cans as cheaply as possible.

They lease the land, and use it for their goals, bnot for good agronamy or good land use or ease of double-cropping or.....

Typical lease vs own deal - someone leasing looks to short term goals, and not anyone else's needs or desires.

Why would they bother to buy, operate, and maintain a spreader on all those machines when it returns nothing to them?
