It sounds like you simpley have to uninstall the ie8 'patch' and you will go back to the previous version.
I googled "revert from ie8 to ie7" and got a lot of hopefully helpful pages. Got to add/remove icon in the Control Panel & remove.
I'm still running IE6 on 2 out of 3 computers., other one is 7.
