the best chargers use both a charging current limit and charging voltage limit. when the battery is low, the current is limited and when the battery is fully charged, the charging current trails off to zero, limited by the constant voltage setting. if your charger does not limit the charging voltage, the battery will have a shorter life than what it would have if not over charged.
