Subject: Satellite vulnerability

With all the talk in the news about U.S. worries about nuclear programs in Iran and North Korea, I have concluded some basic ideas about this situation. First, why would a country as well protected by a vast thermonuclear arsenal, both submarine based and land based be so concerned about a relatively low yield 7 kiloton test by North Korea? I don't believe they or the Iranians are as crazy as they are portrayed. They know that any nuclear attack on the U.S. would be national suicide. One of our trident submarines could lay waste to their entire countries with ease if they attacked. They know this. I believe that the real reason for our concern over their nuclear programs and missile tests lies in the fact that if they have a missile with the theoretical range of say Korea to Seattle or San Francisco simply indicates they have a booster that can give a relatively simple low yield nuclear warhead enough velocity to send this warhead and its associated magnetic pulse well within the vicinity of our gps satellite arrays and have the potential to blind us. It is true that with our precision guided weapons, we have been able to extend our power and influence in ways not possible just 25 years ago. Any country that opposes U.S. policy can be threatened by our cruise missiles and other associated precision guided weapons that can simply destroy their vital infrastructure-power plants, water treatment plants- government buildings etc. If these countries gain a weapon powerful enough to render our satellites inoperative, they can again rebalance the one sided threat that our superior electronics warfare equipment can offer. I'm not siding with these countries but am simply offering a possible explanation to the real threat offered by foreign nuclear programs. This also goes for the europeans as they depend on gps systems as well and tend to back U.S. policy as we carry most of their water defense wise. Just seeking opinion. Thanks
