Have had reasonably good service from an engine driven, portable air compressor. But a couple of days ago, I noticed a lot of smoke coming from the breather on the compressor body. After cooling things down for a time, it was determined that the compressor is now almost seized up. It turns, but with great difficulty. It's as if the bearings had seized...….or the cylinder was underlubricated.
Can the compressor unit be replaced for a reasonable expense? Should we try to disassemble it to see what parts are involved/damaged? Can these compressor units be overhauled, and bearings replaced?
Engine and tanks seem to be in good shape. Hate to spend a lot of bucks for a new one...… Any thoughts? Thanks showboat
When I first opened this i wondered if you were referring to a small unit mounted on the acc drive of an engine similar to a OTR truck but after reading you have me wondering if its a much larger industrial job site type compressor? care to clarify |
