Between the flywheel and ring gear (parallel to the crankshaft, threads will cut half of each) drill and tap for a 1/4" set screw and locktite it. Are you sure the ring gear is slipping? and not just a bad starter drive?

I've never seen a slipping ring gear either, but still learning. I'd drill and tap too if you can get a straight shot at it, because of the "unintended consequences" as much as anything else.

I might even try a punch in the joint every fourth tooth. Nail set, or cape chisel, or sharp punch, experiment a little on junk first.
