Subject: Just got a text from my crop insurance agent

NW Indiana
Must be starting to get a lot of questions already. I just received this.

Corn $4.00 Final plant date June 5th
Beans $9.54 final plant date June 20th

Prevent Plant definition: Failure to plant the insured crop with proper equipment by the final planting date designated in the Special Provisions for the insured crop in the county.

· You must have been prevented from planting the insured crop due to an insured cause of loss that is general in the surrounding area and that prevents other producers from planting acreage with similar characteristics.
· YP, RP, RPHPE, CAT (no Area Plants)
· Pay on the spring price only.
· Claim reported no later than 72 hours after the late plant period (unplanted corn & soy must be on acreage report by acreage reporting day)
· PP guarantee is 55% of harvest guarantee for Corn and 60% for Soybeans, prior to sales closing individuals could have purchased 5% PF or 10% PT additional
· Ground must be left idle through crop year to receive 100% of the PP guarantee (60, 65 or 70%), 100% of premium due
· Must be 20 acres or 20% of unit, eligible acres would be the highest number of acres planted in the last 4 years. If eligibility rolls to another crop pay on the lower liability crop.
· A cover crop can be planted but not hayed or grazed prior to Nov 1, or payment will be reduced by 65% to the 35% indemnity payment only.
· Soybeans planted during corn 25 day late plant period are 1st crop insured soybeans, no PP payment made for corn.
· Soybeans (or other crop) planted after corn late plant period, receive 35% payment of corn, 35% premium due on the PP corn, soybeans would have to be insured.
· APH next year…..Prevent plant and no second crop planted, has no effect on the APH, zero acres zero production
· APH next year...2nd crop is planted on Prevent Plant acres, APH for the PP crop would be 60% of the approved yield for the loss year.
