I tried to get Dad to buy the neighbors quarter up for sale.  Had a well, pipe, some pasture and  a little dry land.

I showed him that if you put 20% down, $18,600, all you would have to do is rent it out at the going rate and it would pay for it self in 15 years.  160 acres for $93,000.

Nope was not interested. 

Then corn went to $2.50 and Dad leveled, ( I use the term leveled loosely, actually he rearranged 1/2 the earth I think to make the pivot work ) about 30 acres of pasture ground and put up a pivot because he could not get enough ground to farm. 

Oh well, life.
