We had a pond cleaned out several years ago but operator got too deep and found a hole. Tried plugging it with bentonite, lining it with plastic and everything else. No luck. So we ran a water line to the pasture and put in a waterer. As soon as cattle were put in there they got in the mud puddle that was the pond and just had a ball.
Next hard rain the pond filled up and has been fine ever since.
