My earmark is a under slope in right ear, upper and lower bits taken out of left ear. This is one of my calves, heifers get personal tags in left ears, steers right. That way we leave tags out of right ears for bangs tag and tattoo. Only calves that get a numbered tag to cow is on first calf heifers at home. They get a little stupid as first timers, being confined in pastures calving at home so it helps if something needs to be straightened out. If a heifer gets kept for a replacement we will then cut a waddle. However I've kind of gotten away from it over the years. Our earmark and brand is enough to bring cow home.
