| No these cows run out open, calve unassisted, we check water systems every other day. 50 mile round trip to check water. When branding we let riders off in allotment to gather a bunch in a area. Then a crew heads to a fence line and we make a temporary pen with net wire and T-posts. Close end of pen off with trailers. Roper's pair cows up, they verify a calf sucking. Then heel them and drag to fire. The roper calls out whose brand to put on. Depends on day, wind, pen size how cows pair up. No way you could tag these calfs at birth. Plus these cows would eat your lunch if you tried to tag alone.
Edited; the roper identifies cow by earmarks, brands, waddles
The last thing you look at is ear tags to pair a cow up. Always go by brand and earmark first.
