I read a book 2 years ago that was an in depth analysis of these concerns. The US has the world's police force which put us in a very strong position to start with. We are also blessed with abundant and varied natural resources and natural borders (oceans) on 2 sides. At least one other border is with a friendly neighbor. While the US economy will fluctuate, we will continue to be the top dog.
