Just a gut feeling but 100 million is WAY too high a number.
This was in a couple news reports: Nebraska’s emergency agency set the estimated cost of the destruction at $1.3 billion on Wednesday, including $400 million for dead livestock, $440 million in lost grain and $439 million in damaged infrastructure.
If half the $440 million in grain is from corn, that's 60ish million bushels. The OP's photo is from Iowa, so add in grain lost from other states along the river, and 100 million bushels of corn sounds plausible.
And 50ish million bushels of beans gone is a start on reducing the carryout. . . |
