Think again about it if they are crop roots.Since they die off each year, they then deteriorate and then serve as chnnels for better drainage to your tile lines. I would suggest you dig a soil pit and just try to find a plow layer after 6 years.Then go dig a pit in soil that has never been plowed,maybe a fencerow.I think you will be pleasantly surprized at what you will find.
