Grand Rapids, MI | I don't know about the specific price difference, but I do know that Monsanto prices its traits differently in different areas. I would assume as you were told, it is because they have differing value to the farmer, depending on the insect pressure, etc. in different areas.
As to "buying it out of state from another dealer" I would suspect it would be fine to buy from a dealer out of state, but if you wanted to license the seed for use (remember you are not buying seed) in your state, you would need to pay your state's price.
btw..my understanding is that this price difference is not only true for the Dekalb brand, but almost any seed company that licenses Monsanto technology. Monsanto charges the independants differing prices to use their technology depending on where it is sold, so hence the seed company most likely passes along this difference. | |
