Eastern Iowa | Monsanto will go as far as the leash they are given by their customers allow them.
They will eventually kill the golden goose. That's the way these things go. They get fat and happy making piles of money and fall behind the curve. It all evens out in the end.
At least in seed corn, you have tons of choices. It's entirely your choice to take another $1 out of your pocket when it's probable there will be no addition of income on the other end, but most people would consider it crazy. If the traits can't pay for themselves with additional yield, I can walk away.
I planted nearly a full Dekalb line-up this year, and all products had Monsanto traits associated with them, but mostly because of pre-ordering. My bottom line probably won't allow the luxury next year. Sorry Monsanto.
