I often like to cut open my discarded filters. I believe I discovered what diesel fuel algae looks like. The photo shows the inside of the filter paper, the outside of the filter paper, black smear from the outside of the filter paper wiped on a paper towel, and a comparison of a new filter color alongside he opened up filter paper. It's almost like a grease that accumulates on filter element paper.. The possible sources are either number one or number two Road fuel either from station pumps or from my own tank at home. First time I've ever had this issue. That I'm aware of.

Yep, black gooey junk like squid ink. I bought a 1480 that set nearly 2 years with a partial tank of untreated bio diesel. It would clog the screen in the tank and the primary fuel filter. I cleaned the screens and gave the remaining fuel a shock treatment with Biocide. No problems after that but everything that goes into fuel storage on the farm gets a good drink of fuel conditioner and biocide.
