The best way I have found to set the GP drill is to lower the lever all the way down past where yu want to plant and then bump it to the desired setting. Have had very good luck with this method and can usually get within a couple pounds per acre of where I want to be.
The later I plant, the heavier I seed. The first week of June however is not VERY late.
